YCTA Calls on Yolo County to Hold Special Session on Acquiring Conaway Ranch
Meetings must be open to the public and not behind closed doors
Woodland - Today, the Yolo County Taxpayers Association (YCTA) called
upon the Yolo County Board of Supervisors to hold public meetings
exclusively dedicated to the County's acquisition of Conaway Ranch.
In a March 18, 2005 letter to the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors,
YCTA President Dudley Holman reaffirmed the association's opposition to
Supervisor Thompson's decision to cancel Conaway Ranch JPA meetings till
further notice.
One of Supervisor Thompson's stated reasons for canceling JPA meetings
was that Board of Supervisors is the proper venue for the public to
address concerns related to Conaway Ranch. So in response, the Yolo
County Taxpayers Association wrote a letter requesting a special session
of the Board of Supervisors.
"The Yolo County Taxpayers Association requests that the Board of
Supervisors convene a special meeting," said Dudley Holman. "This will
dispel concerns related to the financial and legal risks associated with
the county acquisition of Conaway Ranch and reaffirm your commitment to
hold open meetings. Furthermore, a meeting of the Board of Supervisors
exclusively dedicated to Conaway Ranch would allow ample discussion and
opportunities for the public and the JPA to understand the full scope of
the county's eminent domain proceedings."
Yolo County Taxpayer Association is the voice of Yolo County taxpayers
and is dedicated to ensuring greater government accountability to county
taxpayers.
